Foods to introduce your baby to at six months

Yaay! You have made it through exclusive breastfeeding stage, and now it is time to start your baby on solid foods. Wondering where to start? We are here to assist you. A point to note is that the baby’s food will have to be soft for ease in chewing, so mashed food is your partner at this stage.

Your baby will require calcium because this is the best food source for building teeth and stronger bones. In about 4-5 to months, babies will become active, and hence they will require strong bones. Calcium is in various foods like milk, vegetables such as kale and beans. There are lots of options for your little one!

Starchy foods are energy building foods that your baby will need from 6 months.  Start with small amounts to ease digestion and increase the quantities. Starchy foods include potatoes, baby rice, and porridge.

Carol says, “to ensure my baby has a balanced diet, I mash his potatoes with some veggies like butternut and blended spinach. It tastes good, I know because I eat some, and now it is full of nutrients”.

Finally, remember to listen to your baby. Watch their cues to see foods that they like, foods that they are allergic to, and foods that make them tired. Keep your pediatrician’s contact handy in case of any emergencies. Enjoy watching your baby grow.
