Challenges of the New Mother

Being a new mother is the greatest feeling in the world, yet it comes with a set of challenges. Having a brand new baby who requires constant attention can be overwhelming, however, don’t fear, below we list a few challenges that new mums face and solutions on how to copy.. Here are some of the challenges a new mother faces and some easy ways to deal with them.

Nursing/Feeding: One of the toughest challenges of motherhood is nursing your baby. Contrary to belief it is not as easy as it sounds. Nursing a new born takes a lot of patience and practice. A new mother may enlist the help of a lactation consultant to guide them through the challenges of breastfeeding. Some mothers are unable to avail such professional advice in which case they should seek advice from another mom who has nursed her children. The most important thing is to keep at it and not give up. With some time and effort the new mother will be able to find a technique and method that suits her and her baby.
Sleep Deprivation: All new mothers experience lack of sleep in the first few months after their baby is born. Some babies wake up every couple of hours while others may develop a schedule and sleep for longer stretches of time. The most important thing is to realize that as a mother, you will need some rest to keep up with your baby and her needs. Enlist the help of you partner and family when possible to baby-sit for a few hours so you may catch up on your sleep. Do not feel shy to ask for help. For those new mothers who are not as fortunate to enlist help from family, be patient. This time shall pass and you will get into a routine with your baby.
Getting into shape: Being a new mother comes with its battle scars. Your body will not bounce back quickly into your pre-baby shape. You may be feeling insecure about the way you look and feel. Relax! You just went through nine months of creating a new life and that life is totally dependent on you. Give it some time and just focus on the needs of your baby. Exercise with caution and avoid any intense workout routine which might cause injury in the first few months after the birth. If you insist on getting to shape, start with taking your baby for a walk in her stroller and eating nutritional but healthy food.
Working Woman Dilemma: For many working women who become new moms, the decision to return back to work may be made for them based on their family’s needs for a paycheck. But for those mothers who have to make a choice between a career or to be a stay-at-home mom- the decision can be an agonizing one, and most will continue to wonder if the right choice was made. The best thing to do in this situation is to give your choice at least one year. If things are not working out and you are unhappy, you can make a change.
